Group disowns Kanu…Vows to deliver Abia to Jonathan

The True Abians for Development, TAD, initiative has dissociated itself from a statement made by Ambassador Empire Kanu at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, rally in Umuahia last Friday, to the
effect that ‘‘the entire Abia Rejoice Campaign Team would be merged into Okezie Ikpeazu’s team and that Dr Uchechukwu Samson Ogah has accepted defeat and the purported court case would be quashed” In a statement yesterday by the national leader of the group, Chief Demian Igbokwe, it regretted that a man of Kanu’s high standing would make such a unilateral declaration without weighing the consequences.
The statement said that Kanu did not secure the mandate of Ogah as his principal to represent him at the rally, and therefore whatever pronouncements he made were his personal opinion.
It said that the Abia Rejoice Team, which is the official campaign vehicle of Ogah is made
up of many groups and structures with different heads, including TAD initiative, Tranformation Awareness, Students for Uche Ogah, but none has Kanu as its head.
The statement further stated that Ogah as an astute PDP stalwart, has done much to mobilize support for President Jonathan’s re-election bid, and would rein in all the groups loyal to him in the actualization of the objective. It stressed that Ogah’s entire campaign support groups and structures have already decided to deliver the state to Jonathan, but would vote for the best candidates across the parties in the other elections. The statement finally urged Abians to “remain resolute, steadfast, and prayerful”, expressing optimism that the courts would return the mandate to Ogah, even as it promised that the governorship hopeful will soon address the people on the recent developments
